Mid Autumn Festival story and how Chinese celebrate it
Despite rather eating sand than mooncakes (a.k.a the densest food on the planet), my attachment to traditional holidays remains deep, largely due to the responsibility I feel to continue upholding the traditions celebrated by my ancestors and fellow countrymen. This task has only gotten harder with age, which accompanies the simultaneous increase in scoldings from my mum because I can't remember whether we eat zong zi or mooncakes for the Mid Autumn Festival. Lore and origin stories have always piqued my interest because they provide the explanation for a character's motifs and actions. In the case of the Mid Autumn Festival, the video below has finally connected the dots for me and has clarified that we in fact eat mooncakes as an offering to Chang'e and not because we want to strengthen our teeth for the coming year (I really don't like mooncakes).
